Clean white vinyl siding being rinsed at low pressure

House washing

Your siding is not a driveway.

Your siding is not dirty the way a driveway is dirty. What you are looking at is mold, mildew and algae, and it is alive. Knock it off the surface with pressure and the roots stay right where they were. By August it is green again.

So we soft wash instead. Low pressure, closer to a garden hose than a fire hose, and a cleaner that kills the growth down at the root. It rinses away clean, nothing gets forced up under your panels, and the house stays clean a lot longer than a pressure job ever holds.

We do the siding, the soffits, the trim, the shutters, the porch and the front door. Your landscaping gets soaked with plain water before we start and rinsed again when we finish. That is the detail part, and it is the same two of us on your house every time.

What you get

  • Low pressure, so nothing gets driven up behind your siding.
  • Kills the mold and mildew at the root instead of hiding it for a month.
  • Safe around your landscaping, your pets and anybody in the yard.
  • Soffits, trim, shutters and the front porch, not just the flat walls.
  • Licensed and fully insured, and no subcontractors on your property.

Soft wash, explained

High pressure vs. the A1 soft wash.

Most people who are nervous about a wash are picturing the wrong machine. Here is the honest version, including the part where high pressure is the right answer.

Straight high pressure

  • Drives water up under your siding and in behind your shingles.
  • Fuzzes wood, strips paint, and knocks the granules off an asphalt roof.
  • Takes the green off the surface and leaves the roots, so it is back by August.
  • It is the right tool on concrete. That is about where the list ends.

The A1 soft wash

  • Low pressure, closer to a garden hose than a fire hose.
  • The cleaner does the work: it kills mold, mildew and algae at the root.
  • Safe on siding, shingles, painted trim, plants and whoever is in the yard.
  • Stays clean a lot longer, because nothing is left alive to grow back.

So on your driveway we bring the pressure. On your siding and your roof we do not. If a guy quotes you a house wash and spends the whole visit telling you how much PSI his machine puts out, ask him what he plans on doing with it.

Questions we get

Straight answers about pressure, soft washing and your siding.

Will pressure washing damage my siding?

Straight high pressure can, and that is exactly why we do not point it at a house. It forces water up under vinyl and in behind trim, it fuzzes wood, and it will take paint off older boards. A soft wash puts almost no pressure on the surface at all. The cleaner does the work.

What is soft washing?

Low pressure plus the right cleaning solution instead of brute force. We put the solution on, give it a few minutes to kill the mold, mildew and algae, then rinse it off gently. It is the same idea as letting a pan soak instead of going at it with a wire brush.

Is it safe for my plants, my pets and my family?

Yes, with the prep, and the prep is not optional. We soak the beds and shrubs with plain water before any solution goes on and rinse everything down again when we are done. Keep pets and kids inside while we work. Once the final rinse is finished the yard is fine to use.

How often should I wash my house?

Most houses around Davie County want it every year or two. North-facing walls and anything shaded by trees green up faster, so those often go every year while the sunny side can wait. The honest rule: if you can see green or black on the siding from the road, it is time.

“I tell folks the same thing every time. If soap and a little patience will do it, we do not need pressure. Your house is not a driveway.”
Robert "Bob" Buchin, owner. 27 years in the trade.
